Coming from the North?
If you are coming from the north of the country, take the A1 (Autostrada do Norte) to Santarém, where you should exit and follow the signs for the A13/Algarve. Cross the Salgueiro Maia Bridge that connects Santarém and Almeirim, and join the A13 following the signs for the Algarve. Then take the A2 (Autostrada do Sul) and exit at Grândola. Follow the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.

Alternative route – without tolls: In Carvalhos, take the IC1/EN1; in Perosinho (Gaia), join the IC2/EN1 and take the IC24 towards Lisbon; in Alverca, take the EN10 and then the IC1 to Grândola and pick up the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.
Coming from Lisbon?
When leaving Lisbon, either via the 25 de Abril Bridge, or via the Vasco da Gama Bridge, you should head towards the Algarve (A2/Autostrada do Sul). On the A2, you should exit in Grândola, where you take the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.

Note: on the 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges, tolls are only payable when travelling in a south to north direction.
Alternative route – without tolls: From the airport, head north on the EN1 toward Sacavém. On the IP1, exit at Alverca/Alhambra/Bucelas. Take the EN10 and then the IC1 to Grândola, where you should take the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.
Coming from the Alto Alentejo?
If you come from the Alto Alentejo and prefer the motorway, take the EN114 and take the A6 towards Lisbon, joining after the Autostrada do Sul (A2) towards the Algarve. Exit in Grândola, where you should take the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.

Alternative route – without tolls: To avoid tolls and extra kilometres more, head towards Montemor-o-Novo (EN114), continuing to Alcácer do Sal (EN253), from where you should head to Grândola on the IC1 and then take the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.
Coming from the Algarve?
Coming from the Algarve towards Santiago do Cacém, take National Highway 125 and then the A2 until the Beja/Castro Verde/Ourique exit, continue towards Ourique where you should take the N123, then the N389 and then the IC4 to Santiago do Cacém.

Alternative route – without tolls: Take EN125 and then join the A22, an expressway without tolls; cross Tunes (IC1) and follow the N123-1 through Colos and Cercal do Alentejo, taking the IC4 to Santiago do Cacém.
Coming from Spain?
Exit the E90 at Badajoz and head towards Portugal, and just after the border, take the A6 towards the Algarve/Vendas Novas and then join the Autostrada do Sul (A2). Exit in Grândola and take the IC33 to Santiago do Cacém.

Alternative route – without tolls: To avoid Motorways, take the IP7/E90 to Elvas; continue to Montemor-o-Novo on National Road 114, continuing to Alcácer do Sal (EN253), from where you should head towards Grândola on the IC1. Before reaching Grândola, take the IC33 towards Santiago do Cacém.
Speed limits
The maximum speed limit in built-up areas for passenger vehicles is 50 km/h. Outside towns, you may travel at up to 90 km/h and, on roads reserved for cars and motorcycles, up to 100 km/h. On the motorway, you may travel at between 50 km/h (mandatory minimum speed limit) and 120 km/h (maximum speed limit).
