The Municipality of Santiago do Cacém organized, between 8 and 10 September, the third edition of the “Tomato Festival of Alvalade | Mimosa – Gastronomic show in restaurants “, which had the support of the Parish Council of Alvalade and Alensado, CRL. The main objective is to boost the local economy through a product of recognized quality as a local gastronomic heritage – the tomato -, but also promote gastronomy.
The dishes available to the visitors were all made with Alvalade tomato, produced by members of Alensado, CRL, which made available for this edition about 800kg of this agricultural product grown in the parish since 1959.
The restaurants were mostly full, either for lunch or dinner. The main objective was achieved and promoted this product that is fundamental in the parish of Alvalade, as well as the restaurants.
There were five establishments that provided delicacies based on the tomato: Churrasqueira da Mimosa Restaurant, São Sebastião da Mimosa Restaurant; Snack bar The Messias; Bar Snack Bar Firemen; Alentejo Restaurant. Sardines in tomato sauce, Wrap of chicken and vegetables with tomato sauce, Gaspacho Alentejano, Tomato cheeks; Caldeirada de Borrego, Choco fried with malandrinho tomato rice, Cod with tomato sauce, Cheesecake with sweet tomato, were some of the proposals that delighted the visitors.
This year the novelty was held with two nights of animation that took place in Jardim da Mimosa, with the participation of Toi Romão and Marco Filipe, who took a lot of public to this renovated space of the parish of Alvalade.
