Santiago do Cacém was the municipality of Litoral Alentejano (LA) that grew the most in terms of tourism in the year 2016. According to the latest data released by the National Institute of Statistics that compares the year 2016 in relation to the year 2015.
This increase in demand by tourists, both national and foreign, reflects the municipal strategy at the level of promotion, examples include: participation in BTL, the integration of international delegations, the organization of Fairs and Certames (Santiagro and Feira do Monte, which have hit records in recent years), Gastronomic Festivals (from the Lagoon Santo André and Tomate in Alvalade), cultural initiatives where the Chamber is an organizer and / or partner, the creation of the Museum Route, a partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Alentejo to promote the Roman Ruins of Miróbriga, as well as the revitalization of the heritage.
The requalification of the public space of the cities, towns and villages of the Municipality, making them more attractive and returning them to the people, is an area where the City Council is widely involved.
