In 2025, the 10th anniversary of the Lagoa de Santo André Eel Festival – Gastronomic Exhibition in Restaurants will be celebrated, which takes place between January 24th and February 9th, an event that offers a unique experience to the thousands of visitors expected during the 17 days program, where eel dishes are sovereign. The organization is in charge of the Santiago do Cacém City Council, with the support of the Santo André Parish Council.
During the gastronomic exhibition, the nine participating restaurants, A Cascalheira, Cantinho dos Sabores, Chez Daniel, Dom Lucas, Faz-te Esperto, Figo Doce, Giz na Praia, Mesa da Vila, Ti Lena Restaurante & Casa do Gin, all located in parish of Santo André, bring to the table dishes such as stewed eel, stew, cataplana, marinated, fried or grilled eel, with the most diverse side dishes. The initiative values the concept of a gastronomic experience, facilitated by the excellence of local flavors, by knowing how to cook, by the genuineness of Alentejo cuisine, with the aim of boosting the local economy, through eel from Lagoa de Santo André, a delicacy of recognized quality, with profound heritage value, created in the heart of the Lagoas de Santo André and Sancha Natural Reserve. The Lagoa de Santo André Eel Festival does not have any competitive character, nor does it presuppose any classification among the participants, who will, once again, be solely and exclusively focused on making known what is considered a pride of local gastronomy, through know-how and creativity. During the Festival there will be entertainment in the restaurants.As part of this 10th edition of the Lagoa de Santo André Eel Festival – Gastronomic Exhibition in Restaurants, an interpretative walk will take place on January 26th in the Reserva das Lagoas de Santo André and Sancha – Poços do Barbarroxa and dos caniços, and on February 8th, at the Associação da Zona de Brescos, a tasting of dishes made with eels, a crafts exhibition and the performance of the group “Puro Sing.”
